10 Ways to Improve the World

10 by 10 on Tuesdays

This week’s quick list* is a companion piece to our Quote of the Week on Improving the World

So much to do.  So much we could do.  Where do we start?  When the weight of the world is on our shoulders, we often do nothing or go round in circles.

Or we think the problem is so big and our influence so small that whatever we may do will make no difference. And so – we do nothing.

The weight of the world keeps us from doing anything.  Except perhaps beating ourselves up.

This week’s quote reminds us that we may be making it too difficult.  That we really don’t need to wait another moment before starting to improve the world – for others and ourselves.

Here are 10 things we can do now to improve the world.  Ways to boost morale and productivity so that we and those around us can feel more on top of the world instead of feeling weighed down by it.

1.  Slow down and breathe.

2.  Use hallway time.  We often dash down the hall, preoccupied by thoughts of what happened at the last meeting or what’s about to happen at the next one.  Try to be present instead, looking for opportunities to connect with others.  Doesn’t have to be anything major.  Just look each person in the eye, smile and say “hello”.

3.  Take this little test.  Write down the names of everyone you work closely with.  Next to each person’s name, write down the color of his/her eyes.

4. Share stories about Doing Business with Heart .   The more we share stories about doing business with heart, the more people will do business with heart.  And the more people do business with heart, the more people will do business with heart.

5.  Do your best to remember that when someone is mean, mad or rude – it most likely is not about you.   Perhaps it’s a family issue.  Or a health issue.  Or maybe her husband forgot to give her flowers on Valentines Day.  Or perhaps he remembered to give her flowers and remembered to give them to another woman too.   If appropriate,  ask her to go have a cup of coffee or a bowl of soup and allow her to vent or just soak up positive, caring vibes from you.

6.  Celebrate Do a Grouch a Favor Day this Thursday.

7.  Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day on Friday.

8.  Write a “thank you for being  you” note.

9.  Do something fun for your team. Get ideas from our monthly celebrations calendar.

10. Post quotes. Business Class subscribers have affected huge change by simply posting our Quote of the Week on the wall. They didn’t have to say a word.  Here are a few examples. Click on the quote below to read more, download, print, etc.
