10 Tips for Tough Times

10 by 10 on TuesdaysThis week’s Quick List* is a companion to our Quote of the Week which is:

Tough times never last; tough people do.

But besides knowing that tough times aren’t going to last forever…what else can we do?

How are we going to get  ourselves and others through the tough times?

Here are 10 quick tips – mostly from Dads.

1.  Take charge.  Focus on what you CAN do. “Do not let what you cannot do get in the way of what you CAN do. Read more at Quote of the Week from John Wooden.

2.   Take Charge.  Remember that: “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of how things turn out.”  John Wooden

3.  Stay out there.  A lesson from the Hot Dog Dad.  Read more in Staying Out There.

4. Drive through that turn. Read more in Lessons from Richard Petty’s Dad .

5.  Look for creative ways to collaborate.  Be ready to move fast! Read more in Lesson from a Dad in a Chevrolet.

6.  “Be kinder than necessary because everyone is fighting some sort of battle.”  Read more in I love burned biscuits now & then.

7.  Use ALL your strength.  A lesson from Dad in the garage  in this brainteaser.

8..  And because tough times can easily lead to desperation which can cause people to do things they wouldn’t normally do, I include  Two Sets of Threes which was passed from Joshua Wooden to his sons; and then from John Wooden to students and players and now to us.

Set #1  is:

  • Don’t lie*
  • Don’t cheat
  • Don’t steal

Set #2 is:

  1. Don’t whine
  2. Don’t complain
  3. Don’t make excuses –  just do the best you can

* His dad always said that if you don’t lie, you won’t have to remember what you said.

9.  And last, serving as a quick summary:  If you are going through hell, keep going.” Winston Churchill

10.  Get a coach to help you.   A good coach can help you do all of the above with at least a 100% return on your investment.  Contact me to explore.
