In my 32 years of working as a sales rep, a manager and a coach, here are the ten most common causes for being stuck, standing still, going round-and-round or otherwise moving in ways that damage morale and productivity.

Identifying a possible cause or block counts as forward movement, so – Congratulations!
Now what?

1. A recent mistake or rejection.
2. Lack of clear vision and/or goals. No clear plan to achieve them.
3. Too much to do.
4. Unresolved conflict. Unresolved, conflict involves wallowing in the past. A set up for rot and stagnation. Healthy resolution deals with the past and makes best use of it.
5. Resentment toward boss. Same as #4. Lots of wallowing, blaming and gaming. No one can win. And it’s not any fun.

6. Unmotivated or lazy.

8. Lots of discussion resulting in action plan. But no action.

If whatever you are going after is important to you, don’t give up! Concentrate on what you CAN do. Look for the tiniest ways you can move forward.
10. At a standstill. Paralyzed by fear or indecision.
