10 blocks to moving forward

In my 32 years of working as a sales rep, a manager and a coach, here are the ten most common causes for being stuck, standing still, going round-and-round or otherwise moving in ways that damage morale and productivity.

Which of these did you identify when you went through the questions in Quote of the Week:  Moving forward?

Identifying a possible cause or block counts as forward movement, so – Congratulations!

Now what?

It depends.   There is no one-size-fits-all solution.  A trusted advisor or coach could help you review the situation, sort through the options and serve as your accountability partner.  If you don’t have one, let us help you.  Read about our coaching programs right here!

Meanwhile – if you suspect that any of the causes below appply to you or your teammates, take a look at the links or notes about relevant reading.  Clicking on one of these links counts as a tiny baby step in the direction of your goals.  Reading the article counts as baby step #2. Sharing it with your teammates counts as baby step #3.

1.  A recent mistake or rejection.

2.  Lack of clear vision and/or goals.  No clear plan to achieve them.

3.  Too much to do.

4.  Unresolved conflict. Unresolved, conflict involves wallowing in the past.  A set up for rot and stagnation.  Healthy resolution deals with the past and makes best use of it.

5.    Resentment toward boss. Same as #4.  Lots of wallowing, blaming and gaming.  No one can win.  And it’s not any fun.

  • Advice from Tony Soprano coming soon.  We’ll provide the link right here when it’s ready.

6.   Unmotivated or lazy.

7.   What if….?

  • Advice from Greg Isenhour coming soon.  We’ll provide the link right here when it’s ready.

8.  Lots of discussion resulting in action plan.  But no action.

9.  The economy, the weather, health issues.

  • If whatever you are going after is important to you, don’t give up!  Concentrate on what you CAN do.  Look for the tiniest ways you can move forward.

10. At a standstill.  Paralyzed by fear or indecision.
