You don’t have to be a fan of the hit series The Sopranos to enjoy Deborrah Himsel’s book “Leadership Sopranos Style: How to Become a More Effective Boss”, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Based on the business practices of New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano himself, Himsel asks readers to disregard the illegal acts Soprano commits and look at the actual management techniques he exercises. Simply put, Tony knows how to get the job done. Many of Tony’s actions have parallels in the real world, according to Himsel, where “whacking” somebody equates to extinguishing competition, for example. Himsel’s work does more “showing” and less “telling” than many other management books tend to fall into the trend of. These entertaining, and also very informative, parallels allow the reader to approach management from a new perspective (and not just the illegal, Soprano way), allowing for a fresh take on leadership. Luckily we had the chance to interview Deborrah Himsel, talking about corporate management, her own life, and of course business world parallels with The Sopranos within her Book “Leadership Sopranos Style”.
