The second Monday of February is
National Clean Out Your Computer Day.
Those in charge of server space and speed may be thrilled about this holiday. The rest of us aren’t. But we will be IF we celebrate it by cleaning out our computers.
That’s because we will spend less time tapping our foot, twiddling our thumbs and screaming at our computers to hurry up. AND if we do an extra good job, we will spend less time searching for where we put things.
If you have an IT person, he/she can most likely make recommendations about where to start. In case you don’t have one of those, here are a few suggestions.

- junk mail
- downloads that are no longer needed
- bookmarks you longer need
- programs you no longer use
- cache
- shortcuts you no longer use
He offers more suggestions in It’s Clean Out Your Computer Day: Clean up that computer clutter.
The authors of Clear Blog recommend we:
- back up all data and reinstall your operating system. They say, “A pain, but it works”, in terms of speeding things up.
- update virus software and run a scan
- clean the computer itself – keyboard, screen, etc
