I’m sorry to report the sighting of a few mean dogs across the country and even just down the street.
You may have seen a few too.
For most of us, it doesn’t take long for a mean dog to make us feel mean. To growl, bark or bite back. If not stopped, it won’t take long before everyone on the team is at each others’ throats. Or perhaps the mean dogs band together and focus their attack on others. If it continues, in fighting is almost guaranteed. And morale and productivity has been out the window for a while.
For all of those reasons, it is absolutely critical for leaders to be on the look out for mean dog behavior and be ready to stop it immediately. That includes the mean dog that lives inside of each of us as well.
Post it or the story on which it is based (below) on your computer screen (download instructions below).
We can come up with good and bad in ourselves and in most every person, action, situation, etc.
The one we dwell upon, think about, talk about or “feed” the most – that’s the one that wins. And when it’s the mean dog that wins, it’s hard not to lose morale and productivity.
Pass this story along to your colleagues. Talk about it. Post on the walls as a reminder. Post it everywhere as a reminder that the dog you feed the most will win.
