Ships & Boats

An important message for leaders and teams from Martin Luther King, Jr:

We may have all come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now.

Seems like lots of people forget this….making it nearly impossible to get anywhere.

The leader must determine the destination (or goal), tell everyone about it and remind them frequently – so that everyone is rowing in the same direction.

And someone must call whatever “orders” are needed to make sure crew members row in sync.

If that doesn’t happen, the boat will likely stay still or go in circles.

If that happens, morale and productivity will suffer.

If that happens, people will rock the boat or jump ship.

If that happens, the boat will likely capsize or sink.

UNLESS…

someone throws the leader overboard soon enough so that someone else can get the crew coordinated.

Don’t let your boat stay still, go in circles, capsize or sink.

Don’t let your teammates jump ship or throw you overboard.

Decide where your boat is going.

Remind people why that’s important.

Help them coordinate their efforts.

And be sure to make it fun and rewarding to be on your boat.

Oh – and if someone on the boat doesn’t want to go where you want it to go, coordinate with others to get there and join in the fun – it’s time for s/he to get off your boat.

As a reminder , we will be posting this week’s quote on our computer screens.

You can do the same with just three clicks.

1. Click on the image above.

2. Right click on the image that appears.

3. On the pull down menu that appears, click on “set as background”. Voila!

There’s still plenty of room on the left side of the screen for all your shortcut icons.

When you’re ready to change it:

Go to your control panel. Select “Display”. Select “Desktop”. And then choose from the designs offered.”

Or print the PDF versions below. Just click on the printer icon in lower right corner of the image.
