The Main Thing

Thanksgiving is done, and we are only days away from Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and a new year.

it can be a wacky time. Running in a million directions. Too many directions. Not getting anything done and/or not doing it well.

This week’s quote is a critical reminder for leaders everywhere.

During the last 16 days of the year, what IS the main thing for your team?

Is it to:

  • add new business?
  • collect receivables?
  • get ready for a new product launch?
  • get the office packed up for a year end move?
  • help others in need?
  • enjoy the holidays?

Whatever the main thing is – it is CRITICAL that you help your team focus on that as the main thing. And that starts with you. How can you expect them to focus on it if you are all over the place?

Another important question to consider…based on what you have determined to be the main thing for your team, what’s the main thing for each person on your team?

Think they know?

If I asked each person on your team what their main thing is for the rest of the year, would their answers be the same as yours?

If not – it’s NOT okay. And it means that your main thing is to let them know right away that of all the many things that could be the main thing, this particular main thing is the main thing for December.

Do this and your team will love you for it because it will help them focus, accomplish and achieve.

Great for morale.

Great for productivity.

Great for a happier holiday season.

Post this week’s quote (instructions below) as a reminder to keep the main thing the main thing.
