Working in the Dark?

Vinnie’s last day is October 31.   When asked what he most hoped we would all remember after he is gone, he said this:

I work in the dark. You should not.

Yes – Vinnie, the Vampire does his best work in the dark.  Most humans do not.

As leaders, we must get people out of the dark.  We must:

  • share our purpose, vision and values
  • make roles, goals and expectations clear
  • give feedback
  • get problems and situations out in the open

And even when we think we are doing all of that, we must invite, encourage and make it safe for people to tell us things like:

  •  what they don’t know or understand
  •  what would make things run smoother
  • and anything else we may be in the dark about

If we don’t do these things, our team members will likely join the 70% of the American work force that is not engaged in their work.  That’s bad in so many ways.  For them and us.

Post Vinnie’s wise words as a reminder to get yourself and your team out of the dark. See instructions below.

Then grab this book for tips on how to do it.
