Quote of the Week: Inspiration to be better

On Friday morning, a gunman stormed into Sandy Fork Elementary School in Newtown, CT and killed twenty-six people.

On Saturday, these words were shared by the father of one of the victims.

Let it be something that inspires us to be better, to be compassionate and humble people.

He went on to say:

Let us please keep the sentiments of love that we feel for our families, and the compassion that we feel for others– even complete strangers– and keep them with us at all times, not just in times of sorrow and tragedy.  And may we do this so that we can better all of our communities, and all of our cities and all our states, so we can make everyone, everywhere in this country feel safe.

Robbie Parker said that his six year old daughter, Emilie:

  • lit up a room when she entered
  • used her talents to touch the lives of others
  • noticed when someone was sad or frustrated and would find a piece of paper and draw a picture or write an encouraging note
  • carried her markers with her so she wouldn’t miss an opportunity to do this

And he said, “She left this world a better place because she has been in it.”

And she was only in it for six years.

Now it is up to us – as people and as leaders – to inspire and be inspired to make this world a better place.

Post this week’s quote (instructions below) as a reminder to be better… to be  compassionate, to use our talents to touch the lives of others.
