Today is National Grouch Day. Tomorrow is National Boss Day. And Vinnie’s in charge of quote selection until midnight on October 31. So here it is…the Leadership Quote of the Week is…
Thanks to Hayley Wood of Capitol Financial Solutions for mentioning this one to me last week. Vinnie must have been eavesdropping.
So what do you want ?
- Fewer grouches in your life?
- A boss that isn’t a grouch?
- A high performing team?
- A team that loves having you for a boss?
Here are some things to try. If you’ve tried them before, it wouldn’t hurt to try them again.
For #1 – To reduce the number of grouches, see ideas in our post on National Grouch Day.
For #2 – To get a boss that isn’t a grouch, it may be enough to show sincere appreciation to the one you have. Being a boss is tough. And yes – I know she makes you mad sometimes. Can you think of something you like about her? How about the fact that she gives you a paycheck? Think of something specific you appreciate. Write it down – preferably on a card or note paper instead of e-mail, though e-mail is better than not at all. Just say thanks. And not just on Boss Day.
For #1 – 4- For fewer grouches, a high performing team and a team that loves having you for a boss – all of which could lead to your boss being less of a grouch – read, study and use the ideas in Bite Size Bits for Business.

And if you think it looks corny…if you don’t usually do anything for Halloween at your office…if you are scared to try new ideas – scroll back up to the words of Thomas Jefferson.
In fact – how about posting his wise words on the walls. Post on your computer (see instructions below). Post it everywhere as a reminder of the importance of facing your fears. A terrific strategy for boosting morale, productivity and overall performance.
And if you haven’t already done so, sign up here for a Monday morning BOOST for you and your team – the Leadership Quote of the Week delivered to your email box each Monday morning.
