Seems odd to say “Happy” and “Grouch” in the same greeting.
Perhaps that’s the universe telling us that there is some happiness buried in every grouch?
Perhaps the grouch is your boss who will hopefully be happy by tomorrow since tomorrow is Boss Day?
What to do to help the grouches on your team get happier?
Here are 10 suggestions.
1. When you hire people, let them know that you have and want to keep a positive and productive work environment.
2. Do a grouch awareness check on yourself. It’s amazing how easily it becomes a habit.
3. Wherever you are, set a good example with your positive attitude.
4. If you’ve already hired someone prone to grouchiness, tell her that having a positive work environment is important to you and you need her help. Who knows? Maybe she doesn’t realize she has become a frequent grouch. That may be enough to help her stop. If not, more one-on-one coaching with her will be needed.
5. Perhaps they just need to vent – one on one in your office. Or you could include a grouch session on the agenda of your staff meeting. For ideas on this, see How To Have a Great Gripe Session and Complaint Land.
6. Get them involved in coming up with solutions to problems that cause grumpiness. See How To Have a Great Gripe Session and Complaint Land.
7. Give reinforcement, recognition and appreciation to each member of your team.
8. Include opportunities for fun. Lots of ideas for October in this new EEEK-Book.

9. Include opportunities for fun throughout the year.
10. Post our Leadership Quote of the Week in the hallway. It will help you set a positive tone.
