While reading the commentary for our Quote of the Week: GET OFF THE LOG, did you find yourself asking yourself what questions to ask yourself to get you off the log? Woo – that was a big question!
Not that sitting on a log is terrible. It can actually be a nice thing to do every now and then.
But then sometimes – after a while – it can feel a bit foolish. And it has a way of doing a number on morale and productivity.
Jumping off can have the same affect. No wonder we sit there so long sometimes.
So here they are 10 questions to help you decide whether to jump or just get off the log. These are tough questions to handle sometimes. Work through them with a trusted advisor. If you don’t have one, we’d love to be your jump-off-the-log coach.
-
Why did you decide to sit on this particular log – ready to jump?
-
And why was that?
- And why was that?
- And why was that?
- And why was that?
- What would jumping do to improve your productivity, morale, health and happiness?
- What about for those around you?
- What do your answers to questions 1-7 tell you?
a. If they aren’t good enough reasons, just get off the log. It’s okay. You just changed your mind and now it’s time to congratulate yourself for getting off the log with only eight questions.
b. If the reasons are still good but other things are more important right now – simply delay. Better yet – assign the log to someone else. And congratulate yourself for getting off with only eight questions.
c. If the reasons for jumping off the log are still real good – the reward big – go to question #9
9. What is holding you back?
10. What are you going to do about it?
