For the first week of American Heart Month, our featured quote was: “Energy flows where attention goes“. In week #2, Anne Frank reminded us that we didn’t need to “wait a single moment before starting to improve the world“. In week #3, George Washington reminded us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than to dislodge them.
And in the fourth and final week of American Heart Month, our quote is:
Of course, we can’t leave our hearts at home.
But at many offices, hearts do seem missing in action. Perhaps the atmosphere steals or steels them. Perhaps it’s the lack of worthwhile work. Or an unresolved disagreement. Or lack of leadership. Or maybe it’s carryover from a prior job.
But business is business. And the bottom line is the bottom line. And budget cuts are often needed for survival. And so perhaps it’s best to keep hearts hidden.
Then again – don’t you just love it when people do business with heart?
By doing business with heart, I mean, getting the job done on time and on budget. Yet in a way that shows true care and concern for all involved. Making them feel good – even warming hearts by doing business with heart.
It’s great for morale. Great for productivity. Great for staff retention and customer loyalty.
A really cool thing is that the more people do business with heart….the more people do business with heart. And as more people do business with heart…even more people will do business with heart.
Doing business with heart helps us do what the our first three quotes of the month suggested: stimulate the flow of positive energy, improve the world and prevent the enemy from posting themselves. Not just during Heart Month but all the time.
What is it like at your office?
- Do people think they are supposed to leave their hearts at home?
- Have they brought their hearts and had them stomped on?
- Have you seen any evidence of people doing business with heart?
- Would you like to see more?
- If so, what might you do to do to stimulate more of it?
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
