10 Nuggets to Keep You Knocking

10 by 10

We all have to knock on doors from time to time.  Whether it’s to make a sale,  get a loan,  sign up a new recruit or find  just the right vendor for a special project.  Our quote of the week reminds us that opportunity comes to those who keep on knocking. Hard to  do sometimes, isn’t it?  This week’s list provides 10 nuggets to help you keep knocking.

man knocking at door

1. From a study done at the University of Notre Dame:

44% of sales people quit trying after the first call
24% of sales people quit after the second call
14% of sales people quit after the third call
12% of sales people quit after the fourth call

That’s a total 94% of sales people that quit after the fourth call.

Here’s the kicker…60% of sales are made after the fourth call.

What a shame that 94% of sales people have already given up.

2. From a study by Chilton Research (now TNSGlobal) on how long it took firms to make a decision to purchase products/services:

15% – Bought within the first three months
24% – Bought within four to six months
34% – Bought within seven to twelve months
27% – Bought more than twelve months later

3. Rule of thumb/word on the street among colleagues: it takes 7-15 contacts to make a sale.

4. Word on the street from marketing managers in small businesses. They get calls from 5-10 ad reps each day.

5. Word on the street from corporate managers. They have stacks of requests for donations and cannot respond to them all. One bank manager told me that he didn’t even have time to read them all. His personal way to prioritize…if they follow up with a phone call, I take notice.

6. Read Why frequency? This is specific to advertising frequency, but take a broader view of it to include any type of message.

7.  Put humor to work. Begin or end sales meetings or coaching sessions with a knock knock joke or two.   It’s a great way to shift the brain, spark energy, maybe even cause a giggle or a smile.  All of which can help you boost morale and productivity.

Here are a few for you:
