Wisdom from Steve Jobs

To family, friends and colleagues of Steve Jobs…

we are so sorry for your loss and hope you will soon find peace in the many fond memories.

He gave so much to the world while he was here on this earth….

And has left so much behind.

Including much wisdom.

This quote came from Mark Young, owner of  BabyBoomerTalkOnline, who sends out an inspirational quote each day. Here is the one he sent today:

“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself:

‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something…almost everything-all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure-these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”

Steve Jobs

He included a link to Steve Jobs commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005.  And so I clicked on it.  And watched.  For 14 minutes.  Mesmerized.  An unbelievable story.

Some of which I knew.  But…

…let’s just say it helped me connect a few dots.

I hope you’ll watch it (below).

And then – I hope you’ll join me at the mirror.

A few favorite excerpts:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward…only looking backwards.  You’ve got to trust that the dots will somehow connect in the future.  You have to have faith in your gut, destiny, karma…it will give you the confidence to follow your heart…even when it leads you off the well worn path.”

“Sometimes life with hit you in the face with a brick.”

“If you live each day as your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.”

“Remembering I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make big decisions in life.”

“Death is life’s change agent.”

“Your time is limited.  Don’t live someone else’s life.”

“Follow your heart.  Follow your intuition.”

Stay hungry.  Stay foolish.”

Done looking in the mirror?

You hungry?

C’mon let’s go be foolish.
