Many Americans think of Labor Day as the official end of summer.
For some, it’s the start of school. And football season.
Growing up in the south, it was the last day we could wear white.
Many of us forget the history of it. That is was observed in 1882 by the Central Labor Union of New York. After several people were killed by U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, President Cleveland made reconciliation with the labor movement a top political priority. “Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.[2]…….
All U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the territories have made it a statutory holiday.” from Wikipedia
