9 Fun Ideas for Office Professionals Week

woman laughingHere are nine ideas for celebrating Administrative Professionals Week or Administrative Professionals Day The International Association of Administrative Professionals* is encouraging people to widen the scope of celebration to include all office professionals…hence the title of this post.

You can choose to celebrate for a day or a week or not at all.  You can choose to honor administrative professionals only or include everyone in your office. Celebrate as long and as widely as you like.    It’s YOUR office so you get to choose!

If you want to celebrate in the more traditional sense,  be sure to check out:   10 Gift Ideas for Administrative Professionals.    If you want to make it an office celebration, you can always do a pot luck or pizza party.  There’s nothing wrong with either of those, but if you are want to do something a bit different, here are  nine ideas.  Use one or use them all.

1. If you want an off-the-wall idea for right after Easter, try this hoppin’ idea.

2.  Celebrate with this wild party plan.

3.  If it’s appropriate to say that things have been poppin’ at your office,  use this poppin’ idea for a day or the entire week.

4.  If it’s appropriate to say things have been nutty at your office, use this  nutty idea in the middle of the week if you are also doing #1.

5. At your weekly staff meeting, pass out soft pretzels and mustard.  Tell everyone you know things get a bit twisted sometimes and you appreciate them hanging in there with you (or not dipping you in mustard).   If desired, throw in the fact that April is National Soft Pretzel Month.

6.  At the end of your staff meeting, unveil the punching bag you brought in for the day.  Take turns punching and yelling about any frustrating aspects of your work.

7.  Bring in a griddle and make grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch.   Be sure to don a festive apron and chef’s hat.    Why grilled cheese?  Because they are easy to make and because April happens to be Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month.  Choose a different menu if desired – as long as you cook it AND wear the apron and chef’s hat!

8.  Bring in a karioke machine or even better,  take the team to a karioke bar.

9.  Take everyone bowling.   You don’t HAVE to tell them in advance.  You could make it a spur-of- the-moment thing.

And be sure to check out: 10 Gift Ideas for Administrative Professionals.

Whatever you choose to do,  do it in the spirit of showing them how much you appreciate them.  They may roll their eyes but they will appreciate it more than you may ever know.

For Administrative Professionals Day 2011, we’re veering away from the traditional celebration of the day which is centered on administrative professionals. The recession has hit everyone in the office. Downsizing has forced all of us to pull together and work harder, not just the administrative professionals in the workplace. IAAP recognizes the hard work and sacrifice from everyone. This year, celebrate all office professionals.
