Are you or someone on your team doing a lot but not getting much done?
A few years ago, Dad and I were working on some projects at home. I was running here, there and everywhere. Like the little ball in a pinball machine. After a while, Dad said: “Jan, why don’t you read some of that stuff you write?!”
I was busted. And very honored that he had read “that stuff”, remembered it and recognized when it would come in handy.
For most of us – there is WAY too much to do. It’s a blessing that we have so many opportunities and choices. But it can quickly become a curse. And if someone doesn’t call us on it early (like Dad did), it can become tough as quicksand to escape.
“That stuff” I write about, talk about and share with as many people as I can – comes from my experience of working through this blessing-turned-curse. Learning from many sources and developing tools that have helped me and many clients become more aware of the threat, how it’s aggravated and ways to prevent it.
Many of these tools are on the Business Class site, ready for you to use at any time. I pulled a few of them out this week because…well…that little curse was plotting a sneak attack around here. And just in case the threat was looming at your office too, decided to make Doing Too Much our Theme for the Week.
If you or someone on your team is doing a lot, but not getting much done, I invite you to put these quick and easy tools to work:
- Quote of the Week: On doing too much. Download it. Post it on your computer screen as a reminder. Share it with others.
- 10 most important things to do today. This list can help you be more productive. And boost your morale too. A good tool for you and all on your team.
- Brainteaser of the Week. A quick way to reinforce the effect of “too much” and inspire “corrective” action.
- Coming on Friday: Movie of the Week: Too Much To Do. A fun way to raise awareness of today’s office environment and inspire “corrective” action.
If you need help with implementation or don’t have time to do it yourself, let me know. I’d love to hear about your goals and discuss ways we can help you and your team achieve them. Here’s a shortcut to info on our coaching programs.
