Wear A Helmet!

Exercise is a must for managers.   It’s good for body, mind and soul.  Great for morale and productivity.  The manager’s and all who work around him or her.

Just don’t blow it by leaving your helmet behind.

A close friend of mine hates to wear one.  Can’t say that I blame him.   I’d rather ride with my hair flying in the wind, feeling like a kid again.

But yesterday – he collided with a dump truck, flew off of his bike and did a face plant on the pavement.   A bystander said she heard a crack.

His face was all bloody and he seemed a bit woozy.  A doctor checked him out.  No broken bones – or skull.  Just lots of scrapes and bruises.

And lots of luck.

That he WAS wearing his helmet.

AND that several people stopped to make sure he was okay.  One of them was Trey Doak who happened to drive by the scene on his way to work at Sun Trust Bank.    He stopped, loaded bike and biker into his car and took them home.

Thanks Mr. Doak for doing business (and life) with heart.  And thanks to the others whose names we don’t know.

And to everyone else – WEAR A HELMET.  If you are like most managers I know, you and your team have far more important and rewarding work to do than dealing with the consequences of not wearing one.
