To get desired results, managers must make their expectations clear. And then they must follow through. Not hovering. Not micro-managing. But coaching. Well-timed coaching.
In 10 Ways to Make Expectations Clear, #6 is: Establish a time for check-in. The purpose: to review progress to goal, critique, correct, re-direct and/or reinforce. The manager’s role is to coach – providing whatever is needed so that the coachee (s) can get back out there on his own, progressing toward the goal at peak performance. And because often what’s needed most is a reminder of the goal and its importance, the manager must be firm about his expectations and have an unwavering commitment to the goal and his team.
