Saturday, May 15 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day.
But it’s okay if you celebrate on Friday the 14th, Sunday the 16th or Monday the 17th if it suits your work schedule better.
In addition to simply enjoying the cookies, there are several ways you can enjoy boosts from celebrating the day.
Put out a plate of chocolate chip cookies or have someone carry a tray of them around and tell your customers you’re honoring Chocolate Chip Day. Even better – offer a glass of milk too. Customers notice and appreciate small gestures like this. A boost to customer loyalty – and to sales – especially if you sell chocolate chip cookies and the samples are good.
You can also boost morale and productivity by celebrating the occasion with your staff. Just bring a bag of cookies to work. Or one of those giant chocolate chip cookies. And some milk. Put out a tray or pass them around at the staff meeting. It’s a small gesture. But it will be noticed and appreciated.
Important Note: This type of activity will NOT serve to boost morale unless a good foundation is in place. The foundation of good morale and productivity is hiring the right people. Yes – don’t hire grumps. And the people must have clear roles, responsibilities, expectations and goals. And they must receive training and coaching which includes feedback, direction, support and recognition from a trusted manager or coach.
With this foundation in place, a bit of silliness can serve to lighten the load, break the tension and maybe even bring people closer together. Not just today – but down the road as they think about or talk about the day that ___________ (fill in the blank).
