News Release: Blanket Orange County Drive a Success
Chapel Hill, NC (12-22-09)
Thanks to the generous donations of Orange County residents and their friends, Blanket Orange County has surpassed the goal of collecting 300 blankets for Orange County residents in need.
Three hundred blankets have been collected or purchased with donations and with cash contributions that came in today, there is enough money to purchase at least 60 more.
Blanket Orange County organizer and Chapel Hill business woman, Jan Bolick said, “We are thrilled. During the 6 year history of this project, the most we’ve ever collected is 200 blankets. So when Chris Moran from IFC told us they could use 300 blankets this year, we gulped, and set 300 as our goal. The fact that we will pass that by 20% is a tribute to the many generous members of our community who have given blankets, cash, time, boxes, space, laundry facilities, ideas and publicity to help keep others warm.”
Bolick added, “Going over the goal put us in the position to not only fulfill the IFC’s request for 300 blankets, but to also offer help to several young families in need, one of which recently lost all of their belongings in a fire.”
The Blanket Orange County effort ran from December 1-22. Residents and their friends were invited to send cash donations or to drop off new or gently used blankets at The Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, the YMCA at Meadowmont, the Orange County Visitor’s Center or the UNC Wellness Center.
