News Release: Blanket Orange County 1/2 Way to Goal
Chapel Hill, NC (12-11-09) – Over the last 10 days, 150 blankets have been donated by Orange County residents and their friends. That’s 1/2 way to the goal set by organizers of the 6th annual campaign to Blanket Orange County.
The goal of the drive this year is to collect 300 new or gently used blankets before December 21 (the first day of winter). All of the blankets collected this year will go to the Inter-Faith Council (IFC).
Chris Moran, Executive Director of IFC says that the blankets will be used “by residents at Community House and HomeStart. They will also be given to unsheltered persons who sleep outdoors when shelters are full on cold winter nights.”
Moran added, “Your gifts of blankets are important and they make a huge difference in the lives of homeless persons.”
Blanket Orange County organizer, Jan Bolick, says: “It was in the low 30’s this morning when we delivered a load of blankets to IFC. It felt good to know that many people will be a bit warmer starting today because of all the contributions made so far. “
150 more blankets are needed. New and gently used blankets can be dropped off at these locations until December 21:
- The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce on Estes Drive
- The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard
- The UNC Wellness at Meadowmont
- YMCA at Meadowmont on Old Barn Lane
Cash donations are also accepted. 100% of all cash donations will be used to purchase new blankets and they will be purchased locally (in Orange County).
Checks should be made payable to Blanket Orange County and mailed to:
