News Release: Strong Start for Blanket Orange County
Chapel Hill, NC (12-1-09) – The 6th annual Blanket Orange County gets started today and Director, Jan Bolick, has announced that an anonymous donor has given 25 blankets.
“This is a great way to start”, Bolick said. “Only 275 to go!”
The goal of the drive this year is to collect 300 new or gently used blankets before December 21 (the first day of winter). All of the blankets collected this year will go to the Inter-Faith Council (IFC).
Chris Moran, Executive Director of IFC says that the blankets will be used “by residents at Community House and HomeStart. They will also be given to unsheltered persons who sleep outdoors when shelters are full on cold winter nights.”
Moran added, “Your gifts of blankets are important and they make a huge difference in the lives of homeless persons.”
New and gently used blankets can be dropped off at these locations until December 21:
- The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce on Estes Drive
- The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard
- YMCA at Meadowmont on Old Barn Lane
Cash donations are also accepted. 100% of all cash donations will be used to purchase new blankets and they will be purchased locally (in Orange County).
Checks should be made payable to Blanket Orange County and mailed to:
