In preparation for and celebration of National Boss Day, here’s a great story.
In a Business Class interview at A Southern Season, General Manager Briggs Wesche, talked about her boss, the store’s founder and owner, Michael Barefoot.
One of the things she respects is that he empowers people to go out and try things. If they fail, he helps pick them up and figure out how to do it better next time – helping the individual and the organization grow.
When asked about this, Michael shared a motto he lives by: If you don’t fail, you haven’t tried very hard.
“There are too many things out there that deserve a try”, he said. “You can’t win every one.”
Or as a ski instructor once said to me, “If you aren’t falling down a lot – you aren’t trying hard enough.”
And as Confucius said:
