This week’s quick list is a companion piece to our Quote of the Week: Lead with Intention.
With the number of possible paths and destinations seeming to expand exponentially by the moment, it’s easier than ever to go absolutely nowhere. And for morale and productivity to take a deep dive of despair.
More than ever, we need leaders to take charge, cut through the muck and lead with intention.
How to do that?
Here are 10 tips for leading with intention.
- Identify your purpose. Write it down.
- Identify your values. Write them down.
- Identify your goals (be sure they are specific and measurable). Write them down.
- Identify and quantify key activities needed for the achievement of these goals. Write them down.
- Share 1-4 with everyone on your team.
- Track progress on #3 and #4. Think score boards, stat sheets and United Way style thermometers.
- Celebrate progress. It could be a pizza party, a pinata party or a festive Woohoo!
- Coach yourself and teammates to improve stats and remove/overcome obstacles to achieving goal.
- Before every meeting, phone call, interaction, email, etc – think about your intention. How does it help with all of the above? Is it to solve a problem, provide encouragement, reinforce a deadline, relieve stress? It’s okay if it’s totally unrelated. Just be aware of it.
- If appropriate, share your intention with those involved in the interaction. It will help them help you lead with intention.
Any other ideas for leading with intention?
