Quote of the Week for Managers & Mothers Day

In celebration of Mother’s Day our quote of the week is:

managers - what happens when you aren't there

The same is true for mothers.

Managers (and mothers) often hover and fret and micro-manage. Things don’t go right and so they hover and fret and micro-manage some more.  How could they possibly leave? Even for a second.

Neither mother nor manager can drop out of the scene right  away.    There is much molding and shaping and teaching and coaching.   All because of the days when we won’t be there to do it.

This week, in celebration of and preparation for Mother’s Day, we’ll focus on lessons from Mom…ways to be better managers so that we get better results…when we’re there and when we aren’t. Ways that involve teaching and coaching and molding and shaping, instead of hovering and fretting and micro-managing. All for improved productivity, morale, engagement, retention and overall results.

Ways to celebrate Mother’s Day and improve performance:

  1. Post the above quote in a prominent place like your computer screen (see details below).
  2. Share it with colleagues and have a discussion about lessons learned from your own mothers.
  3. To loosen things up, use  Brainteaser  #27 and/or this clip from the movie,  Home Alone.
  4. Thank your mother for the lessons she taught you.
  5. Use the resources below to help you get better results – even when you AREN’T there.
